The HTC Rider will probably be able to be unlocked using an unlock code. This is basically because according to unofficial HTC Rider specs, the mobile device will be released as a GSM or SIM card based phone. Any GSM device has the potential of having a SIM lock on it, which will prevent third-party SIM cards from working. This essentially means, if you bought the HTC Rider with AT&T, but wanted to use T-Mobile as your service provider, then you would not be able to. The lock would prevent your T-Mobile sim card from working and you would never be able to switch carriers. Many phone companies do this in the hopes of keeping their customers or locking them to their service. Hence way many big deals are made to release particular phone models with a certain carrier. Luckily, SIM locks can easily be removed by using an unlock code.
So now you are probably wondering, how would I get an HTC Rider unlock code if I even had the phone. Well first, you would need to get what is called your IMEI number. This number is unique to every single phone and is only on SIM card devices. You can type the characters below on your device. If a 15-digit or similar length number appears on screen after typing this sequence, then you know your device is GSM. (Another way to tell is by opening your phone up and looking for a SIM card slot, behind the battery).

Once you have your HTC Rider IMEI, you can use it to calculate your unlocking code. First, you should call up your current carrier, such as AT&T and request one. They often will give these codes out for free, because of details in the contract. However, if this does not work for you, then there are also third-party vendors that are able to calculate your unlock code. Once you have this code, you should be given steps or instructions along with it, but just in case, you can try the steps we have posted below:
- Power on your HTC mobile phone with an unaccepted/foreign SIM card in (or no SIM card at all).
- Enter your 8-digit unlock code you recieved from earlier.
- Your HTC mobile phone should be unlocked and may automatically reboot!
