How To Unlock Nokia N97 for Free

Unlock Nokia N97

Want to unlock a Nokia N97 for free? This article has instructions on how to unlock a Nokia N97 phone. You need an unlock code for your N97 before you can begin. You can get a free unlock code usually by calling your phone carrier’s support line. Your phone carrier will then request your Nokia N97’s IMEI number. To get the IMEI number off your Nokia N97 just type: *#06#. If your phone carrier will not provide you with a free Nokia N97 unlock code, then read my other phone guide which shows other ways to get free Nokia unlock codes.

Once you have attained a free unlock code, you can begin unlocking your N97. The steps used below are based off the following two articles: How To Unlock A Nokia Phone and Guide To Unlock Nokia N97.

Warning: Entering 3 or more incorrect unlock codes on your Nokia N97 could permanently lock it!

How To Unlock Nokia N97 for Free

1. Type #PW+
2. Enter your N97’s 8-digit unlock code
3. Type +1#
4. Your Nokia N97 should say “SIM Restriction Off”

You should now have yourself a fully unlocked Nokia N97 mobile phone and you did it completely free! Most websites will tell you to go pay for a high priced unlock code. If the above instructions did not work on your phone or you want to learn more about unlocking SIM based phones, check this article out. Furthermore, recently the new Nokia N97 Mini was released and you can find the instructions to unlock it here.

Getting An Unlock Code

If you are unable to get a free unlock code from your phone carrier, then check out this website that offers unlock codes for many different phone models at a low price.

    No way..

Depending on your service provider you may have to look into paying for a unlock code, however, I have found AT&T as well as T-Mobile to be more than willing to give an unlock code in exchange for your IMEI number. Best of luck Nadeem..

I have to say the instrucctions are exactly to what my Network operator told me to do apart from step 7

In step 7 they ask me to Type 4 and then #

But in my case it did not work and that was with the Network telling me what to do, they said to me that they will come back to me once they have better instructions.

I thought to give it a go with your instructions as it has a 1 instead of the 4 in step 7 but it did not work either.

So these steps might be different for each operator.

Also be warned they said to me that you only get 3 chances to try this otherwise the phone locks.

    I guess I only have 1 more go :-(

Thanks/Noted above. My N97 is from T-Mobile. So, my question is, should I still do exactly as per the above steps or is it different for T-Mobile.

Another question, should I type everything (as per suggested steps (1 thru 7) in one single Line.

Last question, please confirm – say in Step 2 it says, Type * three times = P, whether there should be a space after typing * three times or should I type like: ***=P. Also should I continue the next step without giving any space in between.

    Thank you very much.

Hey Anis, Yes I would try the same unlock instructions. I actually just updated the steps just a bit to make them less confusing. Essentially, you want to compose #pw+CODE+1#, where CODE = your 8-digit unlock code for your phone. Hope it helps and good luck!

i put a 3network chip into a vodaphone n97 an am getting intermitant internet access do you reckon this has something to do with the vodaphone software installed or my settings ? phone calls an texting is spot on .

Hey Paul, if your SMS text messaging and phone calls are fine, I would think it is just the wifi signal you are connecting to. However, if you are trying to access the internet using your data over the phone networks, then it could just be the location or your phone carrier capping your internet access. I highly doubt the software you have on your vodafone is problematic.. Hope this helps and good luck Paul!

Many thanks – sorry for the delayed response as I was waiting for the code officially from T-Mobile (received today), having paid them £15.
Its however a 15 digit code and did not work. But the instructions are exactly as per yours given above. Then called T-Mobile support and was informed that I must have the T-Mobile sim inserted in order for the phone to be unblocked. The problem is I dont have a T-Mobile sim, and being in Dhaka I cant even get one here. Is there any suggestion. Also is the 15 digit code correct or should it be 8 digit.

  14. admin
    September 17th, 2009 at 21:12 | #14

Hey Anis, considering it is with T-Mobile, the 15 digit code will work as they gave you. Since the above instructions did not work for you, I would suggest powering on your Nokia N97 without any SIM card in at all. At this point it should request an unlock code or give you further instructions. However, iff that is what you have already tried then I would ask, have you tried it with your new SIM card? If not that may be the trick, but as T-Mobile support has said you might be out of luck :(

Hey Adil, since they will not provide you with a free unlock code for your Nokia N97, you will have to look elsewhere. I would suggest trying some of the unlock code software from this website. Additionally, if you try searching Google, you should be able to find many websites that offer unlock codes for many different Nokia models for a price. Hope this helps and good luck Adil!

Hi, I bought a N97 which is locked on 3 at the moment. I want to unlock it so I can use my t-mobile sim. I rang t-mobile asking for the unlock code, but they said I need to go to 3 and ask them for it. I bought the phone privatley and don’t have a 3 account. What do you suggest I do to get it unlocked? Been searching a few places but can’t find anywhere that do it…PLEASE HELP!!!

    Thanks

Many Thanks. To be honest, I have tried all of the above options your suggested. Now. I have managed to get hold of a T-Mobile sim here in Dhaka. But this sim is of another person i.e. a different mobile number (not the number for which my N97 was provided). Please advise urgently if my N97 may be unlocked using a different T-Mobile sim.

Hey again Anis, sorry to hear you have had no success so far. Using another person’s T-Mobile SIM card should work, as it is the phone’s SIM lock you are unlocking and not on the actual SIM card itself. I have read articles of people borrowing friend’s SIM cards to unlock there phone. All you can do is try it and see if it works :) Good luck!

Hi, these steps only work if you have the network code provided by your service provider first dont they? I have one of these phones on t-mobile but do i have to request the unlocking code from them first? Wont they charge me a fee?
